Invited judges from around the
world judge the trials of new varieties received at Rosarium Westbroekpark in
The Hague from breeders in many countries. The Gold Medals for these trials were
awarded to Kordes for Park/Shrub Rose; Delbard for Floribunda Rose; Limes for
Patio Rose; Harkness for Climbing Rose (Gold Certificate). No award was made for
the Hybrid Tea catagory.
Rosarium Westbroek in The Hague is one of the most beautiful gardens in the
world featuring roses. The Golden Rose for the year is selected from among
the rose plantings in beds that have been grown over a five-year period.

The Mayor of The Hague welcomed the International Jury at a reception for the
judges in a famous museum in the city.
The Kordes Rose Nursery was a major winner of awards at the trials. Wilhelm
Kordes is the firm's rose breeder, shown here with his wife Ute Kordes
